Ready to learn pottery from the ground up? This 6-week beginner-friendly course is your gateway into the world of wheel throwing. You'll learn the full process of creating functional pottery—from raw clay to finished, glazed pieces—while building skills, confidence, and a collection of your very own handmade work. All materials and tools are included—just bring your curiosity and creativity!

What You’ll Learn Week by Week:

Week 1: Intro to the Wheel + Centering Clay
Get comfortable on the wheel, learn how to prepare your clay, and master the essential technique of centering.

Week 2: Throwing Cylinders (Cups & Mugs)
Learn to shape your first forms by throwing cylinders—perfect for creating cups and the base for future mugs.

Week 3: Trimming + Handles
Refine your pieces by trimming them to create clean, finished bases, and learn how to pull and attach handles to your mugs.

Week 4: Bowls
Take your skills up a notch by throwing open forms like bowls, learning how to control shape and thickness.

Week 5: Plates
Discover the techniques for making plates and flat forms, with a focus on widening clay and keeping even thickness.

Week 6: Glazing
Learn how to glaze your pieces with beautiful finishes. We’ll walk through glazing techniques and best practices so your work is kiln-ready.

You’ll leave with a strong foundation in pottery and several finished pieces to be proud of! No experience needed—this course is designed for true beginners.

Intro to Pottery | 4 wk course

Wednesdays | 6–8pm | Ages 18+

Always wanted to try pottery but didn’t know where to start? This 4-week Intro to Pottery Course is designed to give you a complete foundation in both handbuilding and wheel throwing — even if you’ve never touched clay before.

You’ll learn the core skills step-by-step while creating functional pieces you’ll actually use and be proud of. Each week builds on the last, guiding you through the full pottery process from forming to finishing.

What You’ll Learn & Make:

Week 1: Intro to Handbuilding

Learn the fundamentals of working with clay by hand while creating your own mugs and travel tumblers.

Week 2: Intro to Wheel Throwing & Handbuilt Plates

Spend 1 hour on the wheel learning how to throw a cylinder — the foundation of all wheel-thrown pottery.

Then spend 1 hour handbuilding plates to expand your skills.

Week 3: Trimming & Attaching

Spend a hour returning to the wheel to trim and refine your pieces, learning how to create clean, professional finishes.

You’ll also spend a hour handbuilding additional pieces and attachments.

Week 4: Glazing

Bring your work to life by glazing your pieces. You’ll choose from a selection of beautiful studio glazes, and your pieces will be kiln-fired and ready for pickup in a few weeks.
